The bodhisattvas are emanations of particular Buddhas. Shown is a carving of Lokeshvara from a 12/13 th century statue. The symbols of Lokeshvara are the rosary and a tablet of a sacred text held in his raised hands, and a lotus bud and a vessel containing ‘the nectar of immortality’ in his lowered hands.
