Images of Decorated Buddha ornamented with jewels and wearing a precious belt to close his gown, emphasised the fact that the Enlightened one, holder of spiritual supremacy, was identified with the ‘Chakravartin’, the universal sovereign who held supreme temporal power. This beautiful 70cm tall hardwood statue is of a late thirteenth century bronze example now in the Guimet Museum.
